Salesforce Winter ’12 New Features

The new release of Salesforce Winter ’12, is quickly upon us so we here at StarrForce thought we’d share some of the new features with you. The Winter ’12 release is packed with new features, from the way it is rolled out, to more browser support, to major functionality and interface changes.

General Availability During Major Salesforce Releases

It used to be that when a new release was deployed, your instance of Salesforce would be unavailable for up to 4 hours. Granted, Salesforce would try to time these when usage was low but the outage would still disrupt integrations and any late work you may need to do. Now with Salesforce Winter ’12 there will only be a five minute window where Salesforce is unavailable. Thank you from all of us workaholics! (more…)

Thank you Steve, for changing the world not once, but four times with the Mac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

Thank you for showing us that in a world of mediocrity there is room to be successful creating great art.

Thank you for being intensely genuine no matter the consequences.

Now that you are gone I mourn for the loss to the world and to me.

I mourn for the loss of what might have been.

What more could you have created in just 5 or 10 more years! After all, you were only 56. If seems fair that you should have been given a few more years.

Salesforce Wildcards and Operators

You can use the * (asterisk) and ? (question mark) wildcards to refine results. Use * to match one or more characters, or ? to match a single character. For example, searching for bob jo* finds items with Bob Jones and Bob Johnson, and searching for jo?n finds items with john and joan. You can also use the AND, OR, AND NOT, ( ) (parentheses), and ” ” (quotation marks) operators to refine results. (more…)

Windows Easy Transfer Creates Salesforce and Outlook Duplicate Records, Part 2

In part 1 of this blog post, we warned of a hidden issue for those of you who are thinking about synchronizing Outlook with Salesforce that you should be aware of: Windows Easy Transfer Creates Salesforce and Outlook Duplicate Records, Part 1.

In summary, Windows 7 has a tool called Windows Easy Transfer that allows you to move your files and settings from your old computer to your new Windows 7 computer in a few steps.  This sounds like a great time saver but it can create duplicates of all of your contact records and you might end up wasting more time than it might have saved you!
